--Background--
CLARET (Corpus Linguistics Advanced Research Education and Training) is
a national research training programme in corpus linguistics running in
the UK from November 2007 to June 2008. It is open to doctoral students
whose work involves the investigation of large amounts of
electronically-stored language data. The fifth CLARET postgraduate
workshop on "Web-based corpus tools" will take place at the University
of Reading, on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 June 2008.
--Theme of the workshop--
The Reading CLARET workshop (the fifth and final of the series) aims to
give participants knowledge of a range of web-based tools for processing
and querying corpora, and experience in handling a number of them. In
addition to lecture sessions on web interfaces for corpora, on taggers
and other corpus processing tools, there will be hands-on sessions where
participants collect, process, upload and then query data, with guidance
from the workshop leaders.
Presenters at the workshop will include: Paul Thompson, Pernilla
Danielsson, Sebastian Hoffmann, Matt O'Donnell, Alois Heuboeck and
Oliver Mason.
--How to apply--
Applications are invited from eligible participants. Each CLARET
workshop is limited to 30 places, with priority given to AHRC-funded
doctoral students. There is a small fee of £10 per workshop for
participants from partner institutions, and £40 per workshop for
participants from other institutions. A subsidy is available towards
participants' UK travel and accommodation costs for each workshop. For
an application form please see
http://www.reading.ac.uk/internal/appling/claret.htm The deadline for
applications for the Reading workshop is Wednesday 28 May 2008.
CLARET is a collaboration between the Universities of Birmingham,
Lancaster, Liverpool, Nottingham, and Reading and is funded by award
07/01/N under the Arts and Humanities Research Council's Collaborative
Research Training Scheme.
