We have done some work with material collected from the Securities and  
Exchange Commission's EDGAR database:

   http://www.sec.gov/edgar/quickedgar.htm

This contains many kinds of reports and filings from all public US  
companies, tens or hundreds of thousands of documents, I think.  You  
mention annual reports specifically - companies are not required to  
file their in EDGAR, but many do so anyway.
