Purpose: To undertake the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) objectives
as defined in the KTP proposal that covers the development of new semantic
web technologies at Magus. The project will involve significantly enhancing
of the common infrastructure platform that underpins all of Magus’s products


Duties and Responsibilities:

1.To produce new platform capabilities for Magus, including integration
of existing Semantic Web technologies and development of new ones.

2.To work with the School of Electronics and Computer Science to
apply theoretical knowledge to the proposal, synthesising theory and 
practice.

3.To undertake a comprehensive initial literature review and library
research encompassing:

•Conceptual Modelling and Knowledge Bases
•Semantic and Conceptual Knowledge Representation and Languages
(e.g., OWL/RDF, XML Schema, RDFS, etc.)
•Techniques for Semantically Annotating Data and Resources
•Ontology Alignment and Mapping at a Semantic Middleware for Data
and Contents integration
•Ontology Engineering environments in both directions, user
generated and automatically extracted (e.g., OntoBuilder, OntoEdit, 
Protege, etc.)
•Ontology processors and inference engines (e.g., F-OWL, FACT++)
•Semantic Search Engines

4.To identify examples of good practice from the semantic web industry,
including existing software that can be introduced at Magus. Gain insight
from opinion leaders, policy makers, etc.

5.To support the development of a communications strategy and to liaise
with and assist the web development team.

6.To undertake analysis of the existing semantic asset functions
and capabilities involving the product managers, development teams,
end users and commissioning clients. To arrange and carry out user
and developer consultation meetings.

7.Assist with the development of new semantic web platform capabilities,
including work on business development opportunities and financial 
forecasts.

8.Working in conjunction with product managers, developers and the
CTO to assist with the planning process and ensure that the plans are
developed within an appropriate timescale. Assist with requests for 
information.

9.To arrange and attend meetings with partners/contractors regarding 
tendering
and construction of development and assist with delivering agreed tasks.

10.To facilitate dissemination activities including preparation of academic
publications and presentations, etc.

11.To assist with budgeting and administration requirements of Magus.

12.To assist and attend Magus product planning meetings, including 
preparation
of planning papers and minute taking.  

13.To assist with the drafting of development specifications for a range of
projects, including encouraging other Magus developers.

14.Undertake further analysis of semantic models for large corporate
websites built on findings from research and existing large corporate
implementations. Liaison with web development consultants and brand
monitoring requirements.

15.Prepare findings relating to semantic web technologies within the
application domain and work on scientific publications for well-established
international conferences and journals.

16.Undertake creation of a case study for the W3C.

17.To embed new knowledge/findings and assist with building a
knowledge library for Magus.

18.Complete KTP document including Associate and final reports.

   
Qualifications:

Essential::::

A First or Upper Second class honours
degree in Computer Science and Computing or in a
relevant subject (e.g., Software Engineering,
Computational and Mathematical Linguistics, Language and Automata Theory)
