I'm happy to announce the availability of a corpus related to
sentiment/perspective, for purposes of non-commercial research.

The University of Maryland Death Penalty Corpus (or UMD DP corpus, for
short), at http://umiacs.umd.edu/~resnik/dp/, is a collection of material
from Web sites that express views for and against the death penalty. It was
compiled by Stephan Greene <http://www.umiacs.umd.edu/%7Esgreene/> as part
of his doctoral
dissertation<http://www.umiacs.umd.edu/%7Esgreene/SGreeneDissertationFinalDist.pdf>
:

Greene, Stephan C. (2007). *Spin: Lexical Semantics, Transitivity, and the
Identification of Implicit Sentiment*. Doctoral Thesis, University of
Maryland, College Park, MD. UMI Order Number: AAI3277427, ISBN
978-0-549-16038-0.

Key elements of that work are reported more briefly in:

Greene, Stephan and Philip Resnik, "More than Words: Syntactic Packaging and
Implicit Sentiment", *Proceedings of Human Language Technologies: The 2009
Annual Conference of the North American Chapter of the Association for
Computational Linguistics* June, 2009, Boulder, Colorado, pp. 503-511.

The downloadable corpus is organized in a way that should make it easy to
replicate the cross-validation train/test splits in Stephan's study, to
facilitate direct comparisons among alternative methods.

Have fun, and happy holidays,

  Philip
