Inauguration of the Asia-Pacific Rim LSP & Professional 
Communication Association

It was really exciting to see that the Asia-Pacific Rim LSP 
and Professional Communication Association was formally 
established during the Partnerships in Action: Research, 
Practice & Training Conference in Hong Kong, 8-10 December 
2008.

Following its inauguration meeting, the following issues 
were further discussed:

1. The Constitution

The Constitution is being reviewed and revised. The updated 
version will be uploaded to the web in due course.

2. The Executive Committee

The President, Secretary/Treasurer and two members were 
confirmed:

President:

4. Open for Application

The Association would like to invite applications for the 
two available places on the Executive Committee. For 
application, please send a short bio-data (maximum 500 
words) supported by a proposer and a seconder to the 
Secretary/Treasurer, via Ms Josephine Tsang, 
egjtsang at inet.polyu.edu.hk, by 2 March 2009. Nominated and 
seconded applications will be reviewed by the current 
members of the Executive Committee and subsequently 
announced.
 
3. Membership

With reference to Art 24. of the Constitution, the 
Association plans to admit several different types of 
members:

1. Ordinary Members
Ordinary Members are full members of the Association and as 
such are entitled to receive all benefits of membership of 
the Association and to have the right to vote.
Fee:  US$50 for a two year membership

2. Associate/Institutional Members
Associate/Institutional Members are those organisations who 
support the aims and objectives of the Association and wish 
to receive benefits of such membership, including presence 
at the Association's Biennial Conferences, an entitlement to 
reduced registration charges for up to two persons at such 
Conferences, and a reduced charge for any conference 
displays of their organisation's work. They are also 
entitled to be declared as such members in the various 
publicity media of the Association. They have the right to a 
single vote.   
Fee: US$250 for a two year membership

3. Student Members
Student Members are full members of the Association and as 
such are entitled to receive all benefits of membership of 
the Association and to have the right to vote. Such members 
must be in fulltime registered study in a recognised 
tertiary institution and will be required to provide 
evidence of such registration on application for Student 
Membership.
Fee: US$20 for a two year membership

4. Life Members
Life Members are full members of the Association and as such 
are entitled to receive all benefits of membership of the 
Association and to have the right to vote.
Fee: US$200 for life membership

5. Honorary Members
Honorary Members are those distinguished persons who have 
been so designated as Honorary Members after a process of 
proposal by one or more Ordinary Members in good standing 
and  following acceptance of the proposal by the Executive 
Committee of the Association. They have the right to vote.
No Fee

Details about application procedures and fee paying will be 
announced in due course. If you have any questions, please

4. 2010 Conference 

The Association's Conference is organised biennially, during 
which the Biennial General Meeting is called. The next 
conference will be hosted by University of Malaya, and held 
in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 2010. Further details will be 
circulated from time to time.
