The Centre for Translation Studies, the University of Leeds, UK, is 
inviting applications for a funded PhD position in Translation 
Technologies to work in a research project carried out at CTS in 
collaboration with industrial partners and not-for-profit providers of 
translation services. The project will focus on developing intelligent 
access to large-scale translation resources.

The successful candidate will be doing research on discovering 
translation equivalents in parallel and comparable corpora and 
developing new methods and tools with applications in Computer-Assisted 
and Machine Translation.

We expect the candidate to have:

- a strong BA/BS or Masters degree in one of the following areas: 
computer science, computational linguistics, corpus linguistics and 
related areas

- excellent knowledge of at least one foreign language

- good programming skills in one or more of the following languages: 
Python, Perl, C++, Java

- awareness of one or more of the following areas: natural language 
processing, machine translation, text mining, machine learning

- awareness of existing interfaces to electronic corpora, approaches 
based on the analysis of large electronic collections of data

The PhD scholarship will provide tuition at UK/EU rate and provide a 
maintenance grant of £8,000 a year for 3 years.

We can only accept applications from UK and EU citizens, since the 
tuition can only be covered at home/EU rate.
