Successful Aston Corpus Linguistics Summer School held on campus
A successful 2nd Aston Corpus Linguistics Summer School was held on campus last week.
Over 30 academics, researchers and professionals from 17 countries participated! UK institutions the universities of Aston, Birmingham, Newcastle, Nottingham, Reading and Wolverhampton, as well as institutions from Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Spain, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, and USA.
There was very positive feedback from all of the participants and the Summer School will be a regular event in the future, building on the success of other successful Aston Corpus events, the Symposium and the Postgraduate Conference.
The Organiser and Principal Tutor was Ramesh Krishnamurthy (Aston), with contributions from: Dr Mike Scott (Aston), Philip King (Aston), Dr Pierre Larrivee (Aston), Michael Rundell (Macmillan Dictionaries; Lexicography MasterClass), Sylvia Jaworska (PhD, Aston; now German Language Studies Co-ordinator at QML, London), Emma Lay (until recently a sessional lecturer at Aston), and Christophe Benzitoun (ATILF - CNRS / Université Nancy 2).
Two participants who had attended the 1st Summer School in 2009 provided valuable tutor support throughout.
Technical support was provided by Dave Pollard (LSS Learning and Teaching Support Manager), with assistance from Rob Poole (ISA), Neil Cocklin (CLIPP), and ISA with administrative support from Oz Powles (LSS). Accommodation and catering assistance from Conference Aston is also gratefully acknowledged.
