*Three two-year researcher/postdoc positions in Scandinavian Dialect Syntax
*
Deadline: 15 September 2010
Three researcher positions in Scandinavian Dialect Syntax are currently
available. One of the positions will be based at the Text Laboratory, ILN,
at the University of Oslo as part of the project* "Norwegian Dialect Syntax
– Grammatical Variation: New Isoglosses and New Media*" (NorDiaSyn) funded
by the Research Council of Norway. An announcement in Norwegian of this
position can be viewed here
http://uio.easycruit.com/vacancy/418522/62043?iso=no.
The other two positions will be based at *other* Nordic institutions in the
network of research groups participating in the NOS-HS funded project *Nordic
Dialect Corpus and Collaboration *(NorDiaCorp), i.e. one of the following:
University of Iceland, University of Tromsø, The Norwegian University of
Technology and Science (NTNU), University of Bergen, Aarhus University,
University of Copenhagen, Gothenburg University, Lund University, or
University of Helsinki.
A common research task for all three positions will be to further develop
the common resources *Nordic Syntactic Judgments Database *and *Nordic
Dialect Corpus* and to disseminate scholarly and popular information on the
basis of these resources, in collaboration with other researchers in the
network. A particular effort will be made to develop cartographic overviews
over syntactic and morphosyntactic phenomena in the Nordic dialect
continuum.
Applicants should:
• hold a PhD degree in a field relevant to the research to be carried out
• have solid training in theoretical syntax
• have a good knowledge of Scandinavian/North Germanic dialects and
experience with descriptive dialectology
(the position in Oslo in addition requires knowledge of Norwegian
dialects specifically)
• formulate an independent research plan (3-5 pages) which is firmly placed
within the overall project
• show good cooperative skills and be able to work independently
Experience with computational tools in linguistic research will be viewed
favorably. Applicants who have not submitted their PhD thesis for evaluation
by the deadline of this call will not be considered for the position.
The applicants will be evaluated by an expert committee, and the review
process is administered by the University of Oslo. Interviews may be used
for a final ranking of the applicants. Complementary skills and knowledge
and geographical distribution may also used as criteria when selecting among
the candidates. All applicants are asked to upload the following along with
their electronically submitted application (see below):
• application letter
• project plan (3-5 pages) including a progression plan
• list of publications
• Curriculum Vitae
Scientific papers and other documents may be requested later.
The application letter should specify the order of preference for
institutional affiliation. The salary offered will harmonize with the salary
level of comparable positions at the employing institution. For the two
NorDiaCorp positions the period may be shorter than two years depending on
how the available funding may be spent.
As for technicalities regarding submission, all three positions are subject
to the specifications in the Norwegian announcement (see above). All
applications should be submitted electronically by following the
instructions on the page:
http://uio.easycruit.com/vacancy/418522/62043?iso=no, by clicking on the
link "Søk på stillingen" at the bottom of the page.
