Two Research Positions: NLP&Text Mining at The Chinese University of Hong Kong

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (www.cuhk.edu.hk) is pleased to
announce two research positions in natural language processing and
text mining with the MODEST project, funded by Hong Kong Innovation
Technology Committee. This project aims at designing and implementing
novel techniques for large scale text management and mining.

1. Research Associate in Natural Language Processing and Text Mining

The Research Associate will be responsible for two tasks: (1)
developing models for automatic extraction of financial information
from texts; (2) applying data mining algorithms on financial texts to
discover financial knowledge from texts. The position is suitable for
a candidate with a PhD degree in natural language processing, computer
science or a related discipline. The successful applicant will have
strong research experience and good programming skills with Chinese
natural language processing techniques and machine learning. Previous
experience with parsing, information extraction, and text mining is
desirable.

Applicants should send a full CV, including a list of publications, a
description of previous research experience and names of TWO referees
to Professor Kam-Fai Wong (kfwong at se.cuhk.edu.hk) by the closing date.

Salary scale: HK$18,000-24,000
Duration: Funding for this post is available from 1 Jan 2011 until 30
September 2012
Closing date: 30 Nov 2010

2. Research Assistant in Natural Language Processing and Text Mining

The Research Assistant will be responsible for two tasks: (1)
developing models for automatic extraction of financial information
from texts; (2) applying data mining algorithms on financial texts to
discover financial knowledge from texts. The position is suitable for
a candidate with a master degree in natural language processing,
computer science or a related discipline. The successful applicant
will have relevant research experience and good programming skills
with Chinese natural language processing techniques and machine
learning. Previous experience with parsing, information extraction,
and text mining is desirable.

description of previous research experience and names of TWO referees

Salary scale: HK$15,000-18,000
