Research Associate in Natural Language Processing

RCEAL, University of Cambridge, UK

Applications are invited for one post-doctoral Research Associate
position in the University of Cambridge, funded by the Isaac Newton
Trust, to work in the area of computational semantics. The Research
Associate will be responsible for developing novel methods for automatic
extraction of lexical-semantic information from large volumes of text.

Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant field (e.g. natural language
processing, computational linguistics, computer science). The successful
candidate will demonstrate evidence of independent research and a strong
publication record. Strong programming skills and experience with
statistical natural language processing techniques and machine learning
are essential. Previous experience with computational lexical semantics
is desired, as is knowledge of unsupervised and semi-supervised learning
techniques and their application to huge corpora. Experience with
parsing and domain adaptation techniques would be a plus.

The Research Associate will join the Computation, Cognition and Language
group of RCEAL working in close collaboration with the NLIP group of the
Computer Laboratory. This arrangement provides an excellent environment
for research and career development, as the Research Associate will take
advantage of the expertise at both departments.

Informal enquiries can be made to Anna Korhonen (alk23 at cam.ac.uk).

Applicants should send a full CV, including a list of publications, a
description of previous research experience, names of TWO referees, and
a completed form CHRIS6 Parts I and II (downloadable from

http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/hr/forms/chris6/) to Anna Korhonen by
email (alk23 at cam.ac.uk <mailto:alk23 at cam.ac.uk>) by the closing date of
4 September 2010.

Salary scale: £27,319-£35,646

Duration: The position will be for 18 months.

Starting date: 1 October 2010 (or by 1 December the very latest!). The
sponsor has stipulated that the candidate must have been awarded a PhD
degree by that date.

Closing date: 4 September 2010.

Planned Interview dates: week beginning 13 September 2010
