The Sixth International Corpus Linguistics Conference will take place 
from 19-22 July 2011. It will be organised and hosted by the Centre for 
Corpus Research, University of Birmingham, UK, and the theme of the 
conference is "Discourse and Corpus Linguistics".

We are looking forward to a varied programme and invite abstracts for 
papers, posters, short work-in-progress reports in the 'pecha kucha' 
format (see below), as well as workshops and colloquia covering any 
aspect of corpus linguistics. The conference will run from Tuesday 19 
July, until Friday 22 July, with the conference dinner on Thursday 21 
July. This conference will depart from the practice of the previous five 
Corpus Linguistics conferences, and will run the colloquia and workshops 
within the main conference, rather than schedule them all for the first day.

We invite 5 categories of abstracts:

PAPERS will be allocated 20 minutes plus 10 minutes for questions. Paper 
abstracts should be between 400 and 450 words (excluding word count for 
references).

PECHA KUCHA 20x20 talks will be 6 minutes 40 seconds, and should focus 
on work-in-progress. The presentation is to consist of 20 slides, each 
shown for exactly 20 seconds (therefore 20x20). Abstracts should be no 
longer than 250 words (excluding word count for references).

POSTER abstracts should be no more than 150 words (excluding word count 
for references).

COLLOQUIA usually take the form of between 4 and 8 papers, with time for 
audience discussion. We will accommodate short colloquia (2 hours, about 
4 speakers) and longer colloquia (4 hours, about 8 speakers). Proposals 
should be no more than 800 words (for colloquia of 2 hours) or 1600 
words (for colloquia of 4 hours). The proposal should include a 
rationale for the colloquium, an indication of how much of the time will 
be allocated to audience discussion, and an abstract for each of the 
proposed papers (with names of speakers).

WORKSHOPS usually include one or two short presentations and substantial 
audience participation. Workshops can take 1 or 2 hours. Proposals 
should be no more than 300 words (for a 1-hour workshop) or 500 words 
(for a 2-hour workshop) and should describe the organisation of the 
workshop and the nature of the audience participation. Additionally, 
information on technical requirements should be provided.

For colloquia and workshops we would encourage you to contact us ahead 
of the deadline if you have any questions.

Individuals may submit a maximum of two abstracts as first author -- 
whether a paper, a poster, or as part of a colloquium. First authors are 
expected to present the research which bears their name, but all authors 
are encouraged to share in the presentation of co-authored research. An 
individual may appear as a first author only twice on the program, in 
addition to a possible role as a colloquium organizer, workshop leader, 
discussant, or co-author/co-presenter of another paper.

The language of the conference is English. All abstracts should be in 
English; please indicate in the abstract if the paper or colloquium 
itself will be given in a language other than English.

Presenters will be invited to submit their full papers for publication 
in the conference proceedings after the conference.
