But it does prove!, that the composer and performers have the
requisite technical skills. Alas, the proof is not formal...
In fact, linguistics and music do have lots in common. High manual and
intellectual skills are needed to produce... well, a piece of music,
or a piece of speech (I mean, learning a non-native one,or
reproducing, in a phonetically exact way, sounds of any language).
Both are auditory.
Can we reconstruct Bach's music from his notation? No, we can only
hypothesize what it could be, hence the infinite variety of
performances. Apply now this to reconstruction of Latin, Tocharian,
etc.
