CFP: CONTRASTIVE LINGUISTICS, CORPUS ANALYSIS AND ANNOTATION
Theme Session within the framework of the 6th International
Contrastive Linguistics Conference (ICLC6), Berlin (Germany), September
30–October 2, 2010
http://www.ctw-congress.com/2010/ICLC6/
IMPORTANT DATES
Deadline for submission of abstracts: 15 April 2010
Acceptance notification: 15 May 2010
DESCRIPTION
This theme session addresses a number of theoretical, applied and
methodological challenges faced by the corpus-based investigation of
linguistic and other related semiotic phenomena in a contrastive
manner. The purpose of this theme session is to discuss burning issues
arising from contrastive and cross-cultural studies using corpus data.
Papers are welcome on one or more of the following topics:
- Corpora for contrastive analysis: problems and challenges faced by
the use of comparable (original texts) or translation corpora (parallel
texts). What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? In which
ways can they be used in a combined way for maximal benefit?
- Corpus analysis: qualitative and quantitative contrastive
explorations using corpora; contrastive and cross-cultural multimodal
corpus-based studies.
- Corpus annotation: the role of corpus annotation for the validation
of linguistic hypotheses. Problems and challenges faced during the
annotation process. Experimental methodologies for measuring the
reliability, consistency and accuracy of the contrastive annotations.
- Applications: contrastive and cross-cultural corpus studies applied
to contexts such as document design, language learning, translation,
computational linguistics, etc…
