CLARET Workshop: Corpus linguistics and the language professions
University of Birmingham 6th May 2010

This is the second in a series of three workshop events, hosted by the
CLARET partnership: the Universities of Nottingham, Birmingham and
Lancaster. 

The 2010 Corpus Linguistics Advanced Research Education and
Training (CLARET) programme is a national research training programme in
Corpus Linguistics running in the UK. It is open to doctoral students
whose work involves the investigation of large amounts of
electronically-stored language data.

This workshop is concerned with how corpus linguistics informs work in
the language professions, and with how work in the language professions
can also inform theory and methodology in corpus linguistics. The
language professions considered will be those of translation,
lexicography and EAP/ESP.

The workshop will consist of presentations and hands-on work, and these
sessions will be delivered by members of the University’s Centre for
Corpus Research.

The event will be held on Thursday, 5th May 2010, with registration at
10am. Lunch will be provided at 1pm and the workshop will finish at
4.30pm. Participants are also invited to attend the open Sinclair
Lecture at 5 which this year will be given by Dave and Jane Willis.
