Well, it definitely makes sense as soon as you go beyond a single
syntactic tree annotated to a particular text (e.g., multiple parses
produced by different tools, or semantic annotations besides syntactic
annotations, or syntax annotations accompanied by coreference
annotations). In the last years, the question how to deal with such
multi-layer annotations has evolved into an important (and still not
satisfying resolved) research question, and OWL/RDF may be part of an
answer to that: It provides a very natural way to model and to query any
kind of multi-layer annotations using established formalisms, methods, and
technologies. (I'm a bit arguing against myself here: In the last years, I
have been involved in the development of a LAF/GrAF-based XML standoff
format for exactly the same purpose.)
And of course, an additional benefit lies in the seemless integration with
external knowledge sources.

Most query languages implement fragments of first-order predicate logic.
What's the difference ?
