PhD Position in Natural Language Processing at Saarland University

Applications are invited for a PhD position in the area of Natural
Language Processing within the Spoken Language Systems group
(http://www.lsv.uni-saarland.de/) at Saarland University. The
candidate will have the opportunity to conduct research on advanced
techniques for language modeling with applications in information and
relation extraction and text mining. They will work under the
supervision of Prof. Dietrich Klakow and will collaborate with other
members of the research group.

The ideal candidate will have a master's degree in computer science,
computational linguistics or a related field. Strong background in
statistical methods and/or machine learning will be a definite
advantage. Good programming skills are a prerequisite for this
position: the candidate should have experience using general purpose
programming languages such as Java or C++.

Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are also
required.

leader in Computer Science research and teaching, and is particularly
well-known for its research in Computational Linguistics and Natural
Language Processing. In addition, the university campus hosts the
interdisciplinary MMCI Cluster of Excellence, Max Planck Institute for
Computer Science, Max Planck Institute for Software Systems and German
Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). Students and
researchers come from many countries and the research language is
English.

The planned starting date is October 1st (a later or earlier starting
date is negotiable). We anticipate the completion of the PhD in about
three years.

The salary offered is approximately EUR 2080 before tax, depending on
qualifications and professional experience.
