Job description:

The Health On the Net (HON) Foundation, a Geneva-based
non-governmental international organization dedicated to improving the
quality of on-line health information for patients as well as health
professionals is looking for an NLP expert. We are looking for
somebody who combines an interest in NLP research with good
programming skills.

Key responsibilities:
* Mapping out the research agenda, participating in (EU) research
  projects, writing deliverables and scientific articles, attending
  project meetings, giving presentations
* Design and development of innovative techniques for improving search
  quality on text and multimedia formats - document classification,
  (multi-lingual) IR, automatic readability assessment and detection
  of ethical criteria in non-structured health web documents
* Building fully scalable prototypes to test new algorithms and
  migrating from the research prototype to delivering the solution
  into production

Desired experience and skills:
* Post-graduate degree in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics,
  or 3+ years experience in R&D
* Background in information retrieval, document classification, or
  question answering
* Experience in scripting languages (Perl/​Python)
* Experience in multi-threaded programming, and web-service
  applications are a great plus
* Good command of English, other languages are a plus

HON is offering at wide range of services to citizens, medical
professionals and health care providers. The HON Web development team
makes HON services available to millions of users in order to access
health websites respecting a set of quality criteria: the HONcode. The
team combines software development, system administration expertise in
Unix to run multilingual services available in 102 countries. We are
looking from a software developer to contribute to major development
in a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities:

* manage a large scale crawling robot and search engine dedicated to
  health sites
* support NLP team on software development aspects, from research to
  production
* act as software support on many projects (CMS, log analysis etc.)

Desired experience and skills

* engineer or bachelor degree in Computer Science with at least 2
  years of experiences, or provable very strong programming
  achievements;
* applied Agile methodology experience & continuous
  testing/integration;
* programming language: Perl in large structured project and J2EE (web
  application);
* javascript (JQuery) & css;
* Search engine et web crawling experience is a plus;
* knowledge in Solr/lucene;
* any open source contribution is a plus.

You are responsible and organized; creative and proactive.

You are fluent in French with a very good knowledge of written and
spoken English, the German is a plus.
