The 11th International Colloquium on Grammatical Inference (ICGI 2012)
Organizing Committee invites proposals for tutorials to be held in
conjunction with the conference. Tutorials are an effective way to
present the major results and open questions of a research area to
both young and older researchers and scholars, enabling them to
understand technical advances, the major issues, and the literature
much more readily.

For ICGI 2012, we are seeking proposals for tutorials on all topics
related to grammatical inference, broadly conceived. A tutorial may be
theme-oriented or provide a comprehensive survey, or discuss novel
grammatical inference techniques.  Tutorials may also center around
successful application of grammatical inference in important
application areas including, but not limited to

   - bioinformatics
   - robotics
   - cognition (human, animal, or robotic)
   - computational linguistics
   - natural language processing
   - pattern recognition
   - artificial intelligence

Tutorials on general topics in formal learning theory, machine
learning theory, or complexity theory as they relate to grammatical
inference are of course also welcome.

The ideal tutorial should attract a wide audience.  It should be broad
enough to provide a gentle introduction to the chosen topic, but it
should also cover the most important contributions in depth. Proposals
that exclusively focus on the presenter's own work are not eligible.

The typical tutorial will be 2 hrs long (longer tutorials will be
considered).

Proposals should be submitted electronically in PDF format by *Monday,
January 20, 2011* to

     icgi-2012 at udel.edu


Proposals should include:

1. A title and brief description of the tutorial content and its
relevance to the GI community (not more than 2 pages).

2. A brief outline of the tutorial structure showing that the
tutorial's core content can be covered in a two-hour slot. If the
intended tutorial is expected to take longer than 2 hours a rationale
is expected.

3. A description of the intended audience for the tutorial, which
answers the following questions:
   - How much experience is expected of the audience? I.e. novice, 
     intermediate, or expert?
   - What background will be required of the audience?  
   - What is the benefit to participants?

4. The names, postal addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of
the tutorial instructors, including a one-paragraph statement of their
research interests and areas of expertise.

5. A list of previous venues if the same or a similar tutorial has
been given elsewhere.

20 January 2011: Tutorial proposals due
20 March 2012: Acceptance notification
20 May 2012: Tutorials due
12 September 2012: ICGI 2012 Tutorials Day
