7th BAAL Language Learning and Teaching Special Interest Group Conference
Theorising practice and practising theory: developing local pedagogies in language teaching
Date: Thursday, 7th and Friday, 8th July 2011
Place: Centre for Language Education Research at Aston (CLERA), Aston University, Birmingham, UK.
The Centre for Language Education Research at Aston invites abstracts for papers and posters for the 7th BAAL Learning and Teaching SIG conference, entitled, 'Theorising practice and practising theory: developing local pedagogies in language teaching.'.
Particular consideration will be given to papers that explore questions such as:
'How do local contexts affect language teaching pedagogies?'
'What affordances do bilingual teachers bring to the language classroom?'
'What does the development of lingua francas mean for language learning and teaching?'
'How can theory be developed from contextual practice?'
'How can practitioners contribute to local research and theorist/researchers contribute to local practice?'
Submissions are encouraged from researchers in all areas of language teaching, including, but by no means restricted to, English language teaching. Research students investigating areas relevant to the conference theme are warmly welcomed to contribute to the conference.
Plenary speakers for the conference are Professor B. Kumaravadivelu (San José State University, USA), Professor Juliane House (Hamburg University, Germany) and Dr Julian Edge (University of Manchester).
Papers will be 20 minutes long with 10 minutes for questions. Dedicated space and time will be given to poster presentations. Abstracts (up to 300 words) should be submitted by email attachment (Word files) to lss_baal at aston.ac.uk<mailto:lss_baal at aston.ac.uk>. Queries about the conference should also be sent to this email address.
Please follow these procedures for your submission:
1. Submit two files, one containing title (up to 10 words) abstract and details of the author(s) (name(s), affiliation, mailing address and email address) and one containing title and an anonymous abstract. Files must be sent using the following format: first initial_last name_abstract 1 and first initial_last name_abstract 2
2. Also provide a short abstract of no more than 50 words for use in conference program
3. Under the title in each full abstract, please give four keywords which summarise the paper/poster.
4. Please specify under the abstract whether you wish to present a paper or a poster.
The deadline for submissions is Friday February 18th, 2011.
Registration opens on Monday 7th March 2011.
Conference fees are: £120 members, £150 non-members, £90 students
