Yes, why do we have to do that ..... Doesn't everybody know that, when
you use an abbreviation or an acronym, that waters down the meaning?
Quite obviously when you say "I am using a Mac" that has so much less
meaning than then full version "I am using a Macintosh", It means
something more like "I am using a stripped down version of a
Macintosh, like one that can only open but not saved files". Or when
you say, "I live in the UK", then that doesn't mean that you live in
the United Kingdom--it means that you're living in some smaller, less
country-like thing that is maybe a bit like, but definitely weaker,
than the United Kingdom. Don't we all know that??
If John only he knew what linguistic nonsense people are writing on
behalf of his name .....
