Dear list members,

the CALBC project partners have successfully executed the second CALBC
challenge and we are now preparing the second CALBC workshop (16/17/18
March, EBI, Hinxton, Cambridge).

A number of participants have contributed to the overall goal to develop the
largest annotated biomedical corpus (roughly 1 million Medline abstracts).
The workshop will give an overview on the outcomes of the project and of the
challenges.

The registration page is now open, so please do register (www.calbc.eu).

Currently we are finalizing the program. A number of interesting topics will
be on the agenda:
* the outcome of the challenge: participation, contributions, obstacles
* insights into the development of the silver standard corpus: 
harmonisation of annotations, i.e. boundaries and concept identifiers
* validation of the silver standard corpus against the gold standard corpora
* use of the silver standard corpus for improved text mining solutions, 
for literature integration into the Semantic Web
* what are the lessons learnt from the silver standard corpus and approach

On Friday (18th March) we will have room for a significant amount of 
open discussions.  The topics are on the Web page and mainly indicate 
that we see further developments around the silver standard corpus approach.
