Mayo Clinic Natural Language Processing (NLP) Program is currently seeking a
talented Informatics Specialist with experience of NLP and text mining to
join the program. The appointee will work with Mayo Clinic NLP Program
research staff, system analysts, and clinical and biomedical collaborators
to enable the use of unstructured data in Electronic Medical Records (EMRs)
for research and clinical practice through existing infrastructure and
develop new techniques for better information access and delivery, document
processing, and text mining.



Key requirements and selection criteria for the position include:

-          a MS/PhD in Biomedical Informatics, Computer Science,
Computational Linguistics, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline
or a BS degree with multiple years’ of clinical or biomedical software
development and practice

-          demonstrated NLP expertise in some of the following areas:
information retrieval, natural language processing, human computer
interaction in an IR setting, parsing, named entity recognition and
resolution, text summarization, ontology building / integration, system
efficiency

-          demonstrated biomedical informatics expertise in some of  the
following areas: clinical natural language processing, clinical terminology
and ontology,  clinical data warehouse and secondary use of EMR
applications



-          good interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated
commitment to working collaboratively inside NLP program and a strong
interest and devotion in working with clinicians and biomedical researchers



Other desirable skills and selection criteria include:
-     familiar with Unstructured Information Management Architecture (UIMA)
framework



-          programming skills in a variety of languages



-          demonstrated experience in machine learning and statistical
techniques and/or
experimental design and analysis for clinical and biomedical studies;
