Description

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on a cross-disciplinary
 research project

on the connexions between linguistics and natural language processing, with a strong epistemological and historical perspective.

The goal of the project is
to investigate how concepts and methods can be transferred from semantic
theories to natural language processing systems, in order to determine to which
distorsions theories are submitted when transformed into applications.
A case study will be chosen in agreement with the successful candidate. For example, in the case of Semantic Role Labelling, it will be valuable to study
the different steps between Fillmore’s theory, as presented in his 1968 paper,
and its successive transformations into a semantic resource, such as Frame Net
and PropBank. Other case studies might be chosen as well, such as DRT etc…

Requirements : The candidate should have a PhD in linguistics, computational
linguistics, history of science or philosophy of language, with a clear
interest for historical and epistemological aspects of linguistics and NLP.

The candidate should send a CV, including the names and addresses
of two academic referees, a list of publications and a covering letter outlining her/his research interest, namely how the candidate envisions
the project and which particular lines of research she/he intends to explore.
