Syllabs is seeking a linguist specialized in NLP to work on text generation
and information extraction in English.

 

The Company

Syllabs is a research company specialising in the development of tools for
web crawling, in-depth textual analysis as well as text generation using
Natural Language Processing techniques. Syllabs specialises in multilingual
information processing combining the methods of statistics, linguistics and
semantics.

Scope

--------

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

- Text generation in English: write rules to generate short descriptive
texts using an in-house tool for text generation. Texts are generated from
existing data bases (e.g. information about a city) or using our text mining
tools on data crawled from the Internet.

- Information extraction: maintain existing resources for sentiment
analysis.

Person Specification

 

The successful candidate will have the following profile:

Skills

--------

 

- Ability to write computational grammars and lexicons. 

- Native speaker or near-native speaker of English

- Excellent written skills in English, passion for writing.

- Ability to work with tools and formal languages.

- Good communication skills and an ability to work well as part of a team.

- Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Perl, Python).

- Knowledge of German, Dutch or Portuguese will be a plus.

Education/ Experience

--------------------------------

 

- Degree in Computational Linguistics or Applied Linguistics.

- Hands-on experience in development of linguistic resources for NLP (1-2
years).
