Job Summary

· Applied research scientist position, responsible for R&D in
Computational Linguistics / Natural Language Processing (NLP) /
Machine Learning (ML)
· Research and develop clinical NLP techniques to enhance 3M's
clinical NLP platform
  Participate in all aspects of the development of 3M's clinical NLP
platform, and support the platforms usage by other software teams at
3M HIS
· Ensure 3M HIS's NLP capabilities are current with the
state-of-the-art in clinical NLP
· Represent 3M HIS in the broader NLP community, to partners, and to clients

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

· Ph.D.
· 3+ years software development experience
· 1+ year(s) Java development experience

Preferred Qualifications:

· Ph.D. in Computational Linguistics or related field
· Experience building NLP applications with UIMA
· Demonstrated ability to drive innovative NLP / ML research
(publication record, patents, etc.)
· Clinical NLP experience, ideally including experience with cTAKES
· Experience applying machine learning technologies in a large-scale
industrial production environment, especially including deployments to
cloud infrastructure
· Deep understanding of named entity recognition algorithms and
experience working with large-scale ontologies
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· C++ or C# development experience
· Strong planning, organization, project management and time management skills
· Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
· Highly self-directed and able to manage and prioritize multiple
concurrent and competing or conflicting challenges and issues
· Demonstrated team player with results-oriented track record
