CALL FOR PAPERS

The Fourth Named Entities Workshop (NEWS 2012)
	- Shared Task on Transliteration

An ACL 2012 Workshop on 12-14 July 2012, Jeju, Korea

Websites:
	Workshop website: http://translit.i2r.a-star.edu.sg/news2012/
	Paper submission portal: https://www.softconf.com/acl2012/news2012/
	Shared task white paper:
http://translit.i2r.a-star.edu.sg/news2012/whitepapers/

Workshop:

Named Entities (NE) play a crucial role in many monolingual and multilingual

Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Information Retrieval (IR) tasks, such

as document search, clustering, information extraction, etc. The phenomenal

growth of the Internet data and the dramatic changes in the user
demographics
especially among the non-English speaking parts of the world, has made
identification, association and transformation Named Entities across
languages a critical path problem for most NLP and IR Tasks.

The Fourth Workshop on Named Entities (NEWS 2012) together with a Shared
Task
on Transliteration is a continuous effort on top of the success of the first

Named Entities Workshop (NEWS 2009) in conjunction with ACL-IJCNLP 2009, the

second Named Entities Workshop (NEWS 2010) in conjunction with ACL 2010 and
the third Named Entities Workshop (NEWS 2011) in conjunction with IJCNLP
2011.
NEWS 2012 will continue the tradition to run a Shared Task on
Transliteration,
which aims to provide a common platform for benchmarking the transliteration

approaches and systems across many languages. The details of Shared Task
will
be described in the Shared Task Whitepaper.

NEWS 2012 seeks to build on the foundations established in NEWS 2009, 2010
and 2011.
The purpose of this workshop is to bring together researchers interested in
various
aspects of NEs in natural language text. The shared task in this workshop
will
cover more language pairs and more scopes of evaluation tasks.
