This is an exciting opportunity to work on a major ERC-funded project
to edit and study the Arabic commentaries on the Hippocratic Aphorisms
in a variety of innovative ways.
You will compile provisional editions of the extant Arabic
commentaries on the basis of medieval manuscript copies, and enter
them as XML into a database that is to be constructed during the
project. You will also assist with the analysis of this database.
This requires the ability to read and transcribe medieval Arabic
manuscripts accurately and efficiently, and to help in the
interpretation of the rich exegetical tradition of the Aphorisms in
Arabic. A familiarity with classical Greek and/or Syriac would be an
advantage, although not a prerequisite for the post. You should have
obtained a doctorate in a field relevant to this project. Previous
experience with editing medieval Arabic manuscripts is essential.
Both posts are fixed term for four years.
