The issue of context is a central one in the analysis of language, from a linguistic viewpoint as well as from a philosophical one, or within the framework of cognitive science. The meaning of a linguistic expression varies a lot from one context to another, and from one situation to another. But what does 'context' mean exactly? Which definition should we choose for this notion? Should we compare it with the notion of 'situation'? or the notion of 'use'? These are some of the topics that are tackled within the working group dealing with “the construction of meaning in context” which includes linguists and philosophers of the Ecole Normale Supérieure. The workshop to be held on June 14th, Salle Dussane, will try to answer these questions with a group of speakers from different fields and different disciplines in order to promote as rich and varied discussions as possible.
 
Talks will be given in English and in French.
