The Language Technology group, Computer Science department at the TU
Darmstadt is looking to fill a position as

   Scientific Software Engineer

by November 1st, 2013.

Research of the language technology group is focused on methods of
computational linguistics and natural language processing.  We are looking
for a scientific software engineer for a project funded by the BMBF. In
this project, distributional semantic methods shall be applied to align
unstructured texts of specialized domains to taxonomies/ontologies. This
knowledge should then be used for semantic search and document
structuring. The candidate for this project has the opportunity to develop
software in a research context. Additionally, these methods will be
applied in practice with an industry partner.

Funding is expected to be available for two years, starting from November
1st, 2013. Filling the position depends on the availability of funds.

The candidate should comply with following requirements:
€	A completed Master/Diploma in computer science, computational
linguistics, math or any related subject
€	Very good skills in the Java programming language
€	Good skills in scripting languages (Python, Perl etc.)
€	Very good skills in Semantic Web
€	Interest in scientific work and research projects
€	Knowledge in natural language processing is a plus
€	Experience in Big Data processing (Hadoop,Pig) is a plus

This position serves at the same time for scientific qualification for the
candidate and is ideally suited for individuals willing to acquire
graduate-level research experience to qualify as a PhD student, research
associate, or for an industry position.  The possibility to prepare a PhD
thesis during the project will be given.

The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of

50 or equal will be given preference. Wages and salaries are according to
the collective agreements on salary scales that apply to the Technische
Universität Darmstadt (TV-TU Darmstadt). Part-time employment is possible.
