The Department of Linguistics, University of Athens, is organizing a day
workshop on the compilation and analysis of diachronic corpora at the
Central Building ( “Alkis Argyriadis” Conference Hall) on Friday, 28 June
2013. The programme of the workshop includes:



10:00 Welcome talk by Eleni Panaretou, Head of the Department of
Linguistics, and presentation of the workshop

10:30-11:00 Susan M. Fitzmaurice (University of Sheffield): Questions of
representativeness and the challenge of diachronic corpus
building11:00-11:30 Terttu Nevalainen (VARIENG, University of Helsinki):
Representativeness and comparability of historical corpora: The Helsinki
experience

11:30-12:00 Coffee break

12:00-12:30 Sean Wallis (Survey of English Usage, University College
London): The "London Corpora" projects: Lessons for diachronic corpus design

12:30-13:00 Mark Davies (Brigham Young University): Looking at a wide range
of linguistic changes with the 400 million word Corpus of Historical
American English (1810-2009)

 13:00-13:30 Dionysis Goutsos (University of Athens): The Diachronic Corpus
of Greek of the 20th century (Greek Corpus 20): Issues of design and
compilation



The workshop is organized in the frame of the project “Diachronic corpus of
Greek of the 20th century (Greek Corpus 20)”, co-funded by the European
Social Fund and Greece (Research Project “Aristeia”).
