If university student writing is of interest you could look at the BAWE corpus. 6.5 million words in total, 30 main disciplines represented. See www.coventry.ac.uk/bawe  where there are links to the download request form from the Oxford Text Archive, and to Sketch Engine (open access as well as pre-loaded for subscribers).
