The Open University is inviting applications for full-time PhD studentships commencing 1 October 2013. A number of studentships are available for exceptional UK, EU, and overseas applicants for full-time 3-year research projects.
The NLP group at the Open University would be interested in hearing from candidates wishing to pursue research in computational approaches to language analysis. Our main areas of interest are:
- computational semantics (including dialogue and ambiguity)
- natural language generation,
- information extraction,
- NLP applied to educational technology,
- NLP applied to software engineering.
If you are interested in studying any of these areas, please contact Alistair Willis ( Alistair.Willis at open.ac.uk ) or Paul Piwek ( paul.piwek at open.ac.uk ).
Studentships are based in Milton Keynes, UK, and cover full-time tuition fees and include a stipend (currently £13,726 per annum). PhD students will be allocated computer facilities in the Department and receive funding for research expenses, training and conference participation. These will be based in the Department of Computing & Communications (to be formed in autumn 2013 from members of the current Computing and Communication & Systems departments).
Studentships will be awarded based on academic excellence and potential for future achievement, as demonstrated by your application.
