Overview: The Natural Language Processing (NLP) program in the Division of
Biomedical Statistics and Informatics at Mayo Clinic is offering 3-6 month
internships for 2013. Several projects are currently under development in
the areas of clinical decision support, biomedical literature mining,
information retrieval and summarization.



We are seeking candidates with computer science/informatics background.
Experience with biomedical literature and text mining is a major plus.
Research activities and successful findings will be translated into
development activities for existing division projects, peer-reviewed
publications, and extramurally funded research programs.



Requirements: Bachelors or higher in Biomedical Informatics, Computer
Science, Information Technology, or related field. Candidates who have
taken curriculum and/or have a background in text mining will be given
strong preference. All candidates should have experience in Java and SQL.



The candidate should be highly motivated, willing to learn and demonstrate
initiative in assigned tasks. Must possess excellent analytical,
problem-solving and technical design skills. Strong oral and written
communication and interpersonal skills are required.



Duration: This internship has a minimum duration of 3 months (up to 6
months). Start and end dates are negotiable. Successful candidates will be
considered for long-term employment or mentoring.



While this position will prefer students enrolled in or recently graduated
from a university in the USA, visa sponsorship might be considered for
outstanding applicants.
