The CEA LIST Make its Multilingual Analyser Available under an Open Source License

The CEA LIST announced its multilingual analyser LIMA (Libre Multilingual Analyser) has been released under the Affero GPL v3 license and is available here: https://github.com/aymara/lima/wiki.

LIMA (Libre Multilingual Analyser) is a multilingual analyser that has been developed for more than 10 years by the LVIC (Laboratory of Vision and Content Engineering, part of the CEA LIST) according to a classical proprietary scheme. From now on, it is available under a double license model.

LIMA provides all the processing steps necessary to a complete linguistic analysis (morphology, syntax, semantic, named entities, coreferences). It is a highly configurable software with a modular architecture, providing both very good performance for the quality of the analysis and an efficient fast processing. Moreover, it has been designed from the very beginning to be able to be integrated into industrial quality level software.

The Free version is a complete software, containing processing modules and resources that allow to analyse texts in English and French. According to the Affero GPL v3 license, LIMA can be used freely as long as software that are linked to it, both executed locally or run over the network, are also free software with a compatible license.

The commercial version is completed with modules and resources to analyse texts in several languages (Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, Hungarian, Italian, ...). It is available directly from the CEA LIST through R&D partnerships or with its partner ANT'inno, which proposes offers including software support and adaptation of linguistic resources to specific needs.

With the free release of its software, the CEA LIST aims to provide a linguistic analysis solution used both by researchers and those who need a tool for preprocessing texts in open source applications. The adoption of LIMA by a large community will make its code more robust and will facilitate its development, both on a scientific aspect as well as on a software quality perspective

Users of the Free version will benefit from a tool of industrial quality, with open source developments that are supported by a long-term player (CEA). Regarding the commercial version, it is possible for them to freely test and adapt LIMA to their use before acquiring a commercial license.
