[Corpora-List] Software : Glozz 2.0 annotation platform

Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to inform you that the new version 2.0.1-beta4 of the Glozz annotation platform is now available.

The most important corrections or improvements are listed below. Among them we can highlight the forthcoming open source availability of Glozz as well as its new open architecture making it possible for the community to develop plugins.

1) Forthcoming open source availability of Glozz (its licence is in the process of validation).

2) New open architecture making it possible for the community to develop plugins, in order to enhance Glozz capabilities whilst preventing the compatibility problems. We encourage developers to prefer plugins development to Glozz kernel modification (when it kernel sources will be open). Feel free to contact us for further information or help concerning the development of plugins.

3) New plugin "Concordancer", which provides an overview of annotated units in their context, context made of raw text and other annotated objects. A dedicated manual is available on www.glozz.org.

4) The "Basket" is now more largely usable in the whole application and with plug-ins. It makes it possible to select annotation (by hand, as an output of a GlozzQL query or using the concordancer), in order to observe them, in order to save them in a separate file or in order to assign them a specific feature. A dedicated manual is available on www.glozz.org.

5) Shortcuts (Options/Preferences/Shortcuts) may now be mapped to unit types and feature values. Then, it is for example possible to select (using the mouse) a text span and to simply press F1 to create a unit of type "Name" having the value "Male" for the feature "Gender" or F2 for a name refering to a female. Shortcuts may be saved and shared, for a given annotation effort.

6) CSV export and import tools, in order to use annotated data in a spreadsheet, and for interoperability between Glozz and other softwares.

7) A new constraint "Same Position" is available in GlozzQL, related to Units, controls if two units have the same boundaries. This is especially useful when several independent annotation layers are used, in order to know if a strict overlap does exist among annotations belonging to different layers.

8) The Graphical User Interface has been redesigned. In particular, tabs are used for the tools which are rarely used at a same time.

9) SQL export of annotations was corrected and improved.

This archive contains in particular :
	 - the main application (glozz-platform.jar) ;
	 - the concordancer plugin (plugins/concordancer/glozz-concordancer-plugin.jar) ;	
	 - several test files (data/ directory) ;
	 - a changelog (CHANGELOG.utf8) of the most important features of this version and of the previous ones ;
	 - a startup script for Windows users having difficulties with the JAR file (StartGlozz.bat) ;
	 - the current licence in french (licence.pdf).
