*CALL FOR PAPERS*
Associazione Italiana di Linguistica Applicata (AItLA; the AILA affiliated
Italian Association of Applied Linguistics) is pleased to announce its
15th International
Conference, which will take place at the University of Salento, Lecce,
Italy, from 19th to 21st February 2015 (starting Thu. at 2 pm, and ending
Sat. at 1 pm). Conference title:
"Language and Technology:
methods, tools and new environments
for language learning and applied linguistics"
The conference aims to highlight the links between most recent technologies
(software, ICT, imaging tools) and applied linguistics, including
computational and corpus approaches. We invite the submission of abstracts
about any of the following areas:
A) *The impact and relevance of new technologies in applied linguistics*
- Research methods, including those for the definition of theoretical
constructs, for data collection, and data analysis. This also includes
instrumental and experimental approaches to the study of language and
language learning (e.g., biomedical techniques such as EMA, EPG and UTI for
the study of spoken language, and MRI and EEG for the study of the
processing of linguistic information);
- Models for linguistic analysis (e.g., with reference to phonetics
and phonology, morphosyntax, semantics);
- Techniques of automated analysis and statistical validation of data
in applied linguistics, including corpus creation, annotation and analysis.
B) *Relations between information and communication technologies, and
linguistic and metalinguistic learning*
- Learning contexts where the access to resources and knowledge
is favoured
by the use of multimedia and internet tools (e.g., critical reflections on
*e-learning* or MOOC courses);
- Forms of “virtual mobility” aimed at offering students the
possibility to study a language or acquire knowledge about a language in an
international environment (e.g., video-conferencing, virtual reality,
telecollaborative language learning programmes and use of *Second Life*).
C) *Features of computer-mediated communication*
- Analysis of communicative processes and products (e.g., lexical,
syntactic and pragmatic features in interpersonal communication) in
written, aural or signed form, performed by means of ICT technologies.
The conference programme will include (a) 5 invited plenary speakers
(Prof. Harald
Baayen, Prof. Barbara Gili Fivela, Prof. Mirko Grimaldi, Prof. Marie-Noelle
Lamy, Prof. Tommaso Minerva) and (b) papers and posters selected by the
Scientific Commettee among the abstract received. Papers will be of 20
minute duration, followed by 10 minutes for discussion; posters will first
be presented in 5 minute plenary sessions and then exposed in a dedicated
space. AItLA welcomes
submissions in Italian, English, French, German, Portuguese and Spanish.
Please send your paper or poster abstract of 600-1000 words to
congresso at aitla.it by *7th July 2014*, indicating the type of presentation
(paper or poster) and the author(s) name(s) and affiliation(s). The
abstracts will be reviewed anonymously and selected according to the
following criteria: (1) quality of theoretical orientation; (2) quality of
research design, if applicable; (3) significance of findings. Acceptance of
proposals will be notified by *15th August 2014*. Presenters who are
interested in having their work published in a conference volume of
selected papers should send their full and final texts to congresso at aitla.it by
*23th March 2015*. The selection will be based on the criteria above. Papers
will be accepted in Italian, English, French, German, Portuguese and
Spanish. They will be published in Italian.
