Journal ranking

Hi all

I am writing to ask for your support for the attached letter written by Nick
Reimer and myself in relation to the ranking of journals by the ARC
(Australian Research Council). It expresses misgivings about the exercise,
and some of its decisions ­ for example...

Australian Journal of Linguistics A
Functions of Language B
Visual Communication C

If anyone would like to add their name as a signatory, please send me
privately (not via the list) your title, full name, and institutional
affiliation. Support from around the world would be very welcome.

And Nick and I are quite happy for any of you to adapt this letter and send
it in a modified form under your own name.
