a few articles on discourse on IRC channels and in MUDs come to mind. i am
not aware of any articles explicitly focussing on politeness in CMC.

personally i have an anthropology background and am mostly interested in
gender/identity construction in CMC and that probably shows from the
articles i have to offer. still, the intrinsically linguistic nature of CMC
forces social scientific researchers to also focus on these qualities and a
lot of very interesting material is a part of those studies.

i offer these articles because in my own research i have found that it is
hard to find literature _on_ the subject and the literature that is somewhat
connected at least allows you to define the area you're working on more
clearly.
