Introduction

[Celso Alvarez Caccamo]

Hello,

My name is Celso Alvarez Cáccamo (Alvarez-Caccamo, for the
English-speaking world). I'm the equivalent of an Associate
Professor of Linguistics in the University of Corunha, Galiza
(Spain). I did my Ph.D. in the USA some time ago, in Berkeley,
working mostly under the supervision of John Gumperz (mainly)
and Susan Ervin-Tripp. This is not to blame them personally
for my ineptness. On the contrary: it's just proof that even
exceptionally influential figures like them sometimes run into
people like me.

My interests include language, power, and language ideologies,
and that group of phenomena which, for lack of a better name
or paradigm, is still called code-switching.
