Association
NCA meets in Seattle, WA, Nov. November 9 - 12, 2000. The Language and
Social Interaction Division of the National Communication Association
solicits competitive papers and panel proposals concerning the utilization
of speech, language, or gesture in human communication including studies of
discourse processes, face-to-face interaction, communication competence,
speech act theory, cognitive processing, and conversation analytic,
ethnographic, ethnomethodological, and sociolinguistic work. Paper abstracts
will be accepted, but completed papers are preferred. Papers which are
authored solely by students who have not completed the Ph.D. are eligible
for a student award and should be identified by writing "Student" in the
upper right corner of the title page. Refer to "HOW TO SUBMIT PAPERS AND
PANEL/PROGRAM PROPOSALS" at the beginning of the call. Also see "Convention
Paper Distribution Center," "Poster Sessions," and "Special Note" at the
beginning of the call. Deadline: February 1, 2000. For more information
