The Johns Hopkins University-Washington DC Center will host the next
meeting of Washington Coglink.
This will be special session thematically linked to the events of Sept. 11.
The two presenters will address will address specific issues of risk and
communication. These presentations will demonstrate how cognitive
linguistics and rhetorical analysis can contribue to our theoretical
understanding of risk and uncertainty. They will also show how rhetorical
analysis and linguistic research can provide practical methods of
intervention that can help us prevent disaster in the future.
Please forward this message to colleagues and friends in your departments
who might be interested in gesture, linguistic analysis, cognitive
linguistics, ethnography, or risk and communication more generally.
We hope to see you on November 3.

Transportation:
The center is located at 1625 Massachusetts Avenue, just down the block
from the Brookings Institution, the Carnegie Endowment for Peace and SAIS.
Parking will be available from 830am until about 1pm for those who want to
park here. Parking is free in the garage beneath the Airline Pilots
Building at the Center. Enter the parking garage just to the right of the
building through the driveway just past 17th st.
Metro access is via the red line to Dupont Circle. Take the South exit (at
the South end of Dupont Circle). Walk three blocks south on Mass ave. to
the center.
