Erstes internationales interdisziplinäres Symposion zum Liebesdiskurs
20. bis 22. März 2003
Frankfurt am Main, Museum für Kommunikation

Am Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts setzen sich einige Medien durch, welche die
Kommunikation zwischen Liebenden einschneidend ändern: Gerade SMS- und
E-Mail-Kommunikation erzeugen neue Beziehungsformen und neue Formen der
Intimität. Doch sollen neben den neuesten auch die einschlägigen
Liebeskommunikationsmedien wie das Telefon (-gespräch) und das Fax,
sowie die älteren Kommunikationsmedien wie Postkarte, Telegramm und Liebesbrief
zur Diskussion stehen.

Wenn Liebeskommunikation auch als private oder gar intime
Kommunikation anzusehen ist, so zeigt sich mehr und mehr in den
elektronischen Medien eine Ära der Verquickung von Öffentlichkeit und
Intimität, die Aufhebung von privater
Sphäre: Von Liebesbekenntnissen in Talk-Sendungen über Verkuppelungsshows bis
hin zu Trauungs-Quiz-Show ist im Fernsehen ein breites Spektrum an
quotenträchtig inszenierter Liebeskommunikation zu sehen.

An dieser interdisziplinären Tagung sollen aus medien-, sozial- und
kulturwissenschaftlicher Perspektive die Medien des Liebesdiskurses
mit ihren veränderten Kommunikationsverhältnissen,
Kommunikationsbedingungen und nicht zuletzt auch die Kommunikationen
selbst analysiert und diskutiert werden.

Geplante Workshops sind: Intimität und Öffentlichkeit, Private
Kommunikationen - private Gespräche - private Sprachen,
Mediatisierung des Liebesdiskurses, Intermedialität, Kommunikation
und Beziehung.

The First International Symposium on the Discourse of Love
20 - 23 March 2003

By the end of the twentieth century certain new media had established
themselves which have profoundly changed communication among lovers - SMS
and email in particular have created new relational forms and new forms
of intimacy. Yet alongside the use of these new media in the
communication of love, the more familiar ones deserve discussion as
well, such as the telephone and telefax, and even older media - postcards,
telegrams and love letters.

While the communication of love is considered private or even intimate
communication, electronic media nonetheless point increasingly to an era
marked by the intermingling of intimacy and the public sphere, the
abrogation of privacy. From declarations of love on talk shows to
televised dating games and marriage quiz shows, television offers a
panoply of wildly popular theatrical communications of love.

This symposium will include analysis and discussion of these new media
from the perspectives of sociology, history, cultural and media studies,
and linguistics, with particular attention to their role in modifying
communication relationships, conditions of communication, and even
communication itself.

Workshops are planned on the following issues:
Intimacy and the public sphere, private communication - private
conversation - private language, media-tizing the communication of
love, old media - new media
communication and relationship.

Submit abstracts (max. 200 words) of 20-minute presentations by 30 April 2002
