Twenty Years of Storytelling:
The Good, the Better, and the Best
A spontaneously emerging committee of editors agreed with Emerald Group Publishing Limited on a book publication of a collection of articles on the 20 years of storytelling in organizational studies. The book will appear as a tribute to David Boje and will mark the 20th anniversary of the research community currently operating under the codename of sc’MOI (Standing Conference for Management & Organization Inquiry). We would like to publish the book in Spring 2012. The book will contain 15 to 20 chapters from both invited authors and from general submissions. Co-editors Donna Carlon, Slawek Magala, and Carolyn Gardner will be working hard over the next few weeks to fine tune the details, but here’s what we would like to announce.
We are seeking a wide variety of submissions on almost any topic related to storytelling. We especially encourage critical pieces that reflect on the nature of storytelling in organizations, its origins, how it’s changed, etc. One such organization is sc’MOI itself, and its rather colorful history (see http://peaceaware.com/scmoi/history.htm). Both theoretical and empirical works are sought. We also encourage co-authorship! Manuscripts should be unpublished, original work of approximately 8,000 words. The submission process will be two-staged. First, short proposals that describe the manuscript and its contribution to this collection will be requested by February 1, 2011. The deadline for full manuscripts will be approximately September 1, 2011.
You can help us in two ways. First, let us know your thoughts concerning the “must-have” authors for the book. Who, in your estimation, is top of the field in storytelling (other than Boje of course)? Second, consider authoring, or co-authoring a chapter yourself. Doing a proposal only takes a few minutes, so what do you have to lose?
