Bloomfield's Taxemes

I've somehow lost Dan's original posting on this, so at the risk of
being irrelevant:

Concerning the historical antecedents for DM's readjustment
rules--aren't these descended from the readjustment rules of SPE,
perhaps by way of Aronoff's (1976) allomorphy rules? Granted, the
readjustment rules at the end of chapter 5 of SPE have a more
"phonological" look, but when you look at what some of the rules
(particularly (1) and (2)) are doing, they are really creating
allomorphs in phonologically unmotivated ways. And of course this is
Aronoff's point.

If so, then Dan's question becomes what the historical antecedents of
the SPE readjustment rules are, or the allomorphy rules of Aronoff.
Bloomfield does appear in the references at the end of Aronoff's book,
but I'm not sure he is cited in the discussion of allomorphy rules.
