In order to teach children the Võro language parents from the Haani area
Have started to bring their children once a month to the first pre-school
"language nest" in Võromaa (a county in south-eastern Estonia), reports
‘Uma Leht’, a Võro langauge newspaper.

"This is not a proper language nest, but we call it this anyway. We
started it because the Estonian language is becoming increasingly dominant
and we are worried about the survival of the Võro language," said one of
the initiators of language nest, farmer from Haani and a father of three
children, Alvar Vodi. "People rarely speak Võro language with children."
He added.

The "language nest" in Haani is a pre-school group for these children, who
will go to primary school after a year. Everything is explained to these
children in the Võro language in a down to earth way. The aim is to
encourage children to speak Võro. It came as a surprise that many parents
were so interested. Twelve children took part in the first meeting. The
project is supported by the Haani- Ruusmäe primary school.

The organizers hope that the pre-school group in Haani will not be the
only one and that more children of pre-school age will be able to learn
about their language and land all over Võrumaa.

The study of Võro language is organised and supported by the Võro
Institute (www.wi.ee), which has helped to start Võro language classes in

Et oppiq võro kiilt, nakkasõq Haani latsõq üten vanõmbidõgaq egä kuu kuun
käümä Võromaa edimädsen innekooliiäliidsi latsi keeleringin, and teedäq
minevä kuu võrokeeline aoleht' Uma Leht.

"Taa peris õigõ keelepesä ei olõq, a mi esiq kutsu taad keelepesäs.
Tuuperäst teimiq, et eesti kiil' press' pääle, nakkas murõq võro keele
peräst,» ütles üts' keeleringi iistvidäjist, Haani talomiis' ja kolmõ
latsõ esä Vodi Alvar. «Latsigaq kynõldas võro kiilt küländ veidüq.»

Keelering' om inne-kuuli- rühmäkene nailõ Haanimaa latsilõ, kiä aasta
peräst kuuli lääväq. Latsilõ seletedäs kykkõ võro keelen, maa- ja
luudusõ-lähkült. Tahetas, et latsil tulõssiq julgus võro kiilt kynõldaq.
Hääs üllätüses oll' latsõvanõmbidõ suur' huvi as'a vasta. Edimädsel
kuunolõmisõl saivaq võro keelen oppust 12 last. Ettevõtmist tukõ ka
Haani-Ruusmäe põhikuul'.

Keeleringi kõrraldajaq luutvaq, et Haani "keelepesä" jää-i ainomadsõs ja
latsiaia-iän latsilõ naatas umma kiilt ja kultuuri oppama ka muial
Võromaal.
