Call for papers

What is the power of age? 
How is age linguistically constructed, maintained and challenged 
across discourses, institutions, cultures and times? 

We elicit papers to the following topics:

age as a sociolinguistic parameter; 
age as a cultural parameter; age rights; 
discursive construction of age; 
age in a discourse-diachronic perspective; 
age in intra-group communication; 
age in inter-group communication; 
age-targeted discourses; 
age and 'computer literacy' 
foreign (second) language teaching across ages; 
foreign (second) language learning across ages; 
language therapy of age related problems; 
semiotics of age-related behaviors; 
generational conflict; 
power of age 
translating for age groups 

We welcome papers incorporating various perspectives on language, including: 
sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, discourse semantics, text linguistics, pragmatics, 
historical linguistics, corpus linguistics, contrastive linguistics, intercultural 
communication, multilingualism, gender studies, translation, cognitive linguistics, 
neurolinguistics, language acquisition. 

The language of the conference is English. 

Papers

Individual papers (20 min. paper /10 min. discussion) and workshop proposals are invited. 
Abstracts (300-500 words), with the author’s name, affiliation, e-mail address, and paper 
title should be sent electronically through the Abstract submission link by 31 March 2006. 
Notification of acceptance will be sent to the authors by 30 May 2006.

Selected papers will be published in the conference proceedings.
