Job Description
Bilkent University, an independent English-medium university in Ankara, 
Turkey, seeks an assistant professor for its MA TEFL program. Responsibilities 
include teaching a total of four graduate courses per calendar year (with 
thesis advising during summer sessions in June and July). The starting date 
for the position is September 1, 2005.

Required Education
PhD, Doctorate

Required Experience
- doctorate in applied linguistics, TESOL, or related field
- ability to teach two or more of the following: second language acquisition, 
language and pedagogy research, testing, linguistics, sociolinguistics, EFL, 
curriculum development
- native-level competency in English
- experience in linguistics and quantitative research methods is especially 
desirable

About Institution or Organization
Bilkent University is a private university founded in 1984 with the aim of 
establishing a center of excellence in higher education and research. The 
Master of Arts Program in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (MA TEFL) was 
established in 1988 to enhance the quality of English language instruction 
throughout Turkey. Bilkent University, the Turkish Fulbright Commission, 
universities throughout Turkey, and the English Language Office of the U.S. 
Embassy cooperate to support the MA TEFL Program. 
The MA TEFL Program provides graduates with 
- a thorough understanding of linguistic theory and language learning in order 
to improve their classroom teaching and testing
- an enhanced understanding of general educational principles
- familiarity with current developments in educational technology
- research skills to enable systematic exploration of issues related to 
language teaching and analysis
- opportunities to develop professional contacts within the Turkish and 
international TEFL/TESL communities
The MA TEFL Program is an accelerated 11-month, 36-credit program with a 
thesis.
