The mission of this unique conference is to address the education of
teachers of all languages, at all instructional and institutional
levels,
and in all the many national and international contexts in which this
takes
place, including: English as a Second or Foreign Language (ESL/EFL)
instruction; foreign/modern/world language teaching; bilingual
education;
immersion education; indigenous and minority language education; and the
teaching of less commonly taught languages. The conference aims to bring
together teacher educators from these many contexts to discuss and share
research, theory, and best practices and to initiate and sustain
meaningful
professional dialogue across languages, levels, and settings. The
conference will focus on the following four broad themes:
* The Knowledge Base of Language Teacher Education;
* Social, Cultural, and Political Contexts of Language Teacher
Education;
* Collaborations in Language Teacher Education; and
* Processes of Language Teacher Education
Over 100 papers and symposia will be presented by language teacher
educators and researchers from all over the world. Pre-conference
workshops
to be offered include: Using PowerPoint to Create Customized
Language-Learning Software; Teaching Mainstream Teachers About Academic
Language; Critical Literacies: Priorities and Practices in English for
Academic Purposes and Community-Based Programs; Taking Task to Text:
Exploring Text-Based Tasks in CBI, Issues and Models for Technology and
Teacher Development; Developing Intercultural Awareness in Second
Language
Teacher Education; Evaluating the Effectiveness of Language Teacher
Education Programs; Process as Content: Combining the What and the How
of
Teacher Education; and Content-Based Language Teaching through
Technology
for Language Teacher Education.
Register now for this exciting conference! The cost of the conference
is
only $125 if you register by April 1st, and $150 after that date.
The conference begins on Thursday evening (June 2) with the keynote
address
and an opening reception and continues throughout the day on Friday and
Saturday (June 3-4) with plenary sessions, papers, and symposia.
Pre-conference workshops are offered on Thursday (June 2) in the morning
and afternoon. Please note that separate registration fees are charged
for
pre-conference workshops.

Special post-conference opportunity
Content-Based Language Teaching with Technology:
Workshop for Language Teacher Educators
June 6-8, 2005
Minneapolis, MN
This special three-day workshop will directly follow the Language
Teacher
Education conference to make it possible for language teacher educators
to
take advantage of both opportunities. It will provide an in-depth look
at
the CoBaLTT resources, which were designed to help foreign language and
immersion teachers develop content-based instruction supported by
effective
use of technology. The workshop will be instructed by Diane Tedick, the
director of the CoBaLTT project, Marlene Johnshoy, co-instructor for the
technology portion of the workshop, and Laurent Cammarata, graduate
assistant to the project.
Instruction and all materials for this workshop are free, though
participants will need to pay for their own travel, accommodations, and
meals.
