Bilingual backpacks build students’ comprehension, confidence

The Associated Press LE MARS, Iowa — English Language Learning teacher Bonnie Lassen had no idea how far her concept would make waves. 

It started with three backpacks. They were stuffed full of bilingual English language-learner materials for her students at Clark Elementary to check out and share with their families. Today she has 60 backpacks going out into the community and other area schools are starting programs.
