This is the sixth biennial Communication Skills in University Education (CSUE)
Conference.
The aims and objectives of this conference remain the same as those of
previous CSUE conferences:
To promote the development of communication and literacy skills of tertiary
students
To provide a means for professionals with interest in the area to get together
and share ideas.
In 2006, the conference is being hosted by the University of Auckland's
Student Learning Centre, and will be held in Auckland, New Zealand, 29
November - 1 December.
Confirmed keynote speakers are:
Associate Professor Brian Paltridge, University of Sydney, Sydney
Professor Konai Helu Thaman, The University of the South Pacific, Fiji
Conference presentations
All participants are invited to submit an abstract relating to the conference
theme for presentation at the CSUE 2006 conference. Submissions must be in one
of the following categories:
Paper presentations (25 minutes per paper: 20 minutes presentation, 5 minutes
for questions/discussion)
Snapshots of teaching and/or learning strategies (25 minutes per session: 20
minutes presentation, 5 minutes for questions/discussion)
Facilitated group discussions on a topic relating to the conference theme (55
minutes question - answer and group discussion)
Workshop for hands on learning (50 minutes: 10 minutes for
questions/discussion
Poster presentations (During lunchtimes). Posters must be ISO A1 (594 × 841
mm).
The deadline for submission of proposals is 29 May 2006
All proposals are subject to aproval by the conference committee for inclusion
in the conference program. Successful authors/presenters will be notified by
26 June 2006.
Refereed conference proceedings
An edited book of refeered conference proceedings will be published through
Pearson Education. A copy of this book will be sent to all conference
delegates once released.
Delegates wishing to have their papers considered for this publication must
indicate on the proposal form, submit the full paper by 28 July 2006 and
adhere to the guidelines given below.
Guidelines for submitting papers for the refereed proceedings
Submissions must clearly relate to the conference topic of communication
skills in university education and the broad theme of "Intercultural
Communications across University Settings".
Submissions, in Microsoft Word document format, should be sent as an e-mail
attachment to Lynette Herrero-Torres l.herrero at auckland.ac.nz no later than 28
July 2006. The attachment you send should be entitled CSUE06_YourSurname.doc
(e.g., CSUE06_Wolfgramm.doc). If there is more than one author, use only the
surname of the first author in the title of the document. If submitting more
than one document, use numerals after the surname (e.g.,
CSUE06_Wolfgramm2.doc).
Referencing of all submissions should conform to the Publication Manual of the
American Psychological Association (APA), 5th Edition.
Word limits:
Theoretical articles and reports of research (whether submitted for paper or
poster presentation): maximum of 5,000 words (including abstract, references,
notes, and tables). Snapshots of teaching and/or learning strategies: maximum
of 2,000 words (including abstract, references, notes, and tables). Where
possible, data relating to the assessment of the effectiveness of these
strategies should be included.
To facilitate blind peer review of the papers submitted, the names and
institutional affiliations of the authors must not appear anywhere else except
the title page.
The manuscript should be well organized to aid readability and accessibility
to a wide range of readers.
The typeface used should be Times New Roman, 12pt. Line spacing should be
double, and margins should be 3 cm for the top, bottom, left and right.
Manuscripts must not have been previously published, and should not be under
consideration for publication elsewhere.
The editors of the book reserve the right to make editorial changes in any
papers accepted for publication to aid clarity and readability. The authors
will only be consulted where these changes are extensive.
